It's A Wonderful World!

Happy Mother's Day!

Fun, fun, fun!

It's been a busy day, but I guess it was by choice. I was able to relax a little this morning with my yummy breakfast of biscuits and gravy in bed. I watched a movie on Oxygen and then it was up to wash the van, weed the gardens, groom the dogs and pack lunches for school tomorrow...among other various Sunday chores. Lou mowed the lawna and is now lighting the grill for our yummy dinner!

Lou surprised me with a beautiful statue of Mary for my garden. I have wanted one since we made the garden last year. I bought a cheap ten dollar one at Big Lots, but it was already looking worse for the wear. Snapdragon painted an adorable flower pot for me at school and Buttercup gave me a pretty flower clip for my hair and some new nailpolish.

Snapdragon enjoyed playing in her water table. It was 86 degrees today and it didn't rain! Poor Buttercup has spent most of the day completing homework. Hopefully, this is the last project she'll have this school year! I think we are all finished and need a break!

Anyway, love my girls and my hubby! The joys of motherhood far out-weigh the stresses...even though today was full of some of the stresses.

Game Time

We had a good time at the ball game. The Redbirds played very well. The Easter egg hunt was kind of a disappointment. There were no staff from the park monitoring the hunt. Children just ran to pick the eggs up as soon as the gates opened. Most of the eggs were gone in less than 2 minutes to about ten older children who filled their bags with 20-30 eggs each. A very nice family gave Snapdragon a few eggs so she would have some.

Snapdragon didn't seem to mind, she still enjoyed watching her favorite sport. She met the Easter Bunny, Griz from the Memphis Grizzlies, and Rockey(her favorite) even picked her up and danced with her! At the end of the game Buttercup and Snapdragon ran the bases.

We started our Easter celebration last night with dinner and then attended the Easter Vigil at Saint Ann Bartlett. It was a beautiful Mass. Snapdragon liked all the fire. She exclaimed, "How come we don't have fire in the dark all the time at church?" Father lit the Easter Candle from a fire pit outside and we all processed in with our lit candles. During the Baptism renewal we all lit our candles again. Snapdragon also liked being sprinkled with Holy Water. She yelled out, "My teachers have that!" Of course Lou replied, "I wonder why!" She said Father should use a squirt gun next time. (Only Snapdragon!) She also wanted to know why everyone was looking at her.

The girls rose early this morning to find their Easter treasures. The backyard was littered with eggs and the baskets were stuffed to the brim. It was funny to watch Buttercup because she wanted the eggs the felt like there was nothing in them. She was hunting for the dollar bills! It's off to the Redbird's game later to meet the Easter bunny and go on another egg hunt!

Spring and New Layout

What to do when you have time off???...work in the yard, take some photos, and play with the blog of course! I'm not completely satisfied with the layout of the blog, but it is coming together.

I also thought I would try my hand at some spring photography after doing some spring cleaning in the yard. My favorite is the Retro Radio Flyer shot. I had to laugh when I saw where this American classic was made!

Snapdragon and Mommy Day

Last night the whole family went to the fireworks game at Autozone Park and I enrolled Snapdragon in their Kids Club. For ten dollars she got a ticket to every Sunday homegame, five game tokens, a shirt, and various other coupons. It was quite a deal. We decided to take advantage of her first ticket today.

We went to Kids Opening Day for the Memphis Redbirds. She had a blast! She met with Rockey several times and then got to run the bases at the end of the game. There was hardly anybody there and the Redbirds won 7-1!

Bedroom Makeovers

My back and my knees hurt, but my children are happy! (Even if Snapdragon isn't showing it in the pictures...she wasn't in the mood for posing.) I spent my entire Saturday redoing bedrooms. This was sparked by Snapdragon's tansition from her toddler bed upon the arrival of her new furniture Friday. She has been in her room ever since we cleaned and decorated it!

Of course, Buttercup was a little on the jealous side and decided it was time to makeover her room. This involved a deep clean, removal of a bookcase, and a great deal of physical labor to move the furniture. The van was loaded for a trip to Goodwill. Then we made a quick trip to Pier One and that is where she bought her new teenage decor. I was hanging pictures and lanterns at 11:00 last night. She decided to pack up a great deal of her "little kid" memories. I spent this morning wrapping them in bubble wrap and putting them away.

The transition of both my little girls into "big girl bedrooms" was a little too much to take. I have to admit I cried a little when I was wrapping up some of Buttercup's little childhood treasures this morning and finally sent away all of the cribsheets that fit the toddler bed. Both of the girls are entering times of transition. One into an adorable, strong willed, energetic little girl leaving toddlerhood behind; and the other a beautiful, surprisingly clean and organized, responsible (with a bit of attitude mixed in) teenager. I know this is cheesy, but how blessed am I to have two wonderful and very different daughters!
